TypeFace

About

TypeFace is a content generation based CMS powered by Ruby on Rails. Unlike many of the portal based CMS systems that most open source CMS’s tend to fall in to, TypeFace focuses on generating content for static sites rather than community driven sites. TypeFace’s is ideal for creating small to medium sized web sites which typically contain mainly static content, but where the site owner can easily modify their web site content.

The typical TypeFace user base is aimed towards smaller web development companies and freelancers who want to provide their clients with an easy to use interface for maintaining the content on their site, but where the web designer / developer can have complete control over the style, layout and structure of the site in a flexible / programmable way that does not manifest its self to the clients through some over complex user interface or steep learning curve.

Documentation & More Info.

TypeFace contains code documentation generated with RDoc and a user manual which is partially complete at the TypeFace website. The user manual is managed in by TypeFace its self and will be released as mini TypeFace example / add-on.

If you are able to contribute towards documentation (or anything like bug fixes, rSpec tests), or would like to make screen casts please feel free to add pages to this wiki, or contact me with updates through the contact details on the project website.

I plan to release some small example projects / content packages / examples that illustrate how typeface can be used to create things simple systems such as:

  • Web galleries
  • Article systems with ATOM feeds
  • Alternative PDF pages
  • Event listings
  • Contact Forms
  • Illustrate how TypeFace can integrate with existing sites that use dynamic content

Status

At time of (June ’08) writing TypeFace is under heavy development. Some bits will be a little rough, but if you have issues, feel free to contact me via the project home page and I will do my best to help. While the project is still in alpha/beta stages, if you are interested please watch this project. I will try to make some updates to the public repository at least once a week, and would be grateful for any feedback received.
