SproutCore vs. Flash
From Joshua Dickens (June 27, 2008):
> I think that the Flash vs. SproutCore thing is is an overblown false battle drummed up by some over excited bloggers and journalists who always want to write about so-and-so’s Flash killer.
>
> While some products were clearly designed for that purpose (I.e., Silverlight), I don’t think that is at all the intent of SproutCore.
>
> There will always be battles about whether to use Flash or web-standards, and perhaps SC fits into those battles but I think they are mostly political.
>
> The reality is that users don’t care. They (we) want rich, interactive experiences (with a mnimum of hassle) and whether you give it to them using Flash, JS+HTML, both or none of the above, so be it.
>
> The exciting thing about SproutCore is that it is a framework you can leverage to provide those kinds of experiences with a minimal amount of fuss, using existing web technologies.
>
> I might add that you can defintiely integrate Flash views within your SC app, so if you need something that only Flash can do, like 3D or whatever, you can use it. So it’s not an either/or scenario.
>
> Anyway that’s my two cents. SproutCore (along with modern web browsers) enables interactive experiences that were once available only in desktop apps or with the help of a plugin — but more importantly it makes it less painful to develop them.
