<p>If you are on a Mac running OS X 10.5 with Xcode installed, chances are you don’t need to do anything to get started. Double check below to make sure or just head back to [[How do I get SproutCore?]] to continue.</p>
<p>If you need to install the Xcode tools or you are not on 10.5 or later, read on:</p>
<h1>Step 1: Install the Xcode Developer Tools</h1>
<p>These tools come free with your Mac. To install, just insert the OS X <span class="caps">DVD</span> and look for the folder called “Developer Tools”. Open that folder and double click on the file called “Xcode Tools.mpkg”. If you already have the developer tools installed, you can skip this step.</p>
<p><span class="caps">NOTE</span>: If you upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5 and you installed a previous version of Xcode tools before you upgraded, be sure to install the latest version of the tools that came with OS X 10.5. Your old tools will not work.</p>
<h2>Step 2: Install Ruby 1.8.6 (OS X 10.4 or earlier only)</h2>
<p>If you are running OS X 10.5 or later, congratulations, you are done! You can go back to [[How do I get SproutCore?]]. If you are running on OS X 10.4 or earlier, you will need to install Ruby 1.8.6. Follow the “Setting Up Ruby” portion of <a href="http://hivelogic.com/articles/2007/02/ruby-rails-mongrel-mysql-osx">this guide</a> to get it installed. (Also see this <a href="http://hivelogic.com/articles/2005/12/ruby_rails_lighttpd_mysql_tiger">earlier guide</a>)</p>
<p>Once you’ve installed Ruby you’re good to go. Return to [[How do I get SproutCore?]] to get started.</p>
