FrequentlyAskedQuestions
What is OneBody?
OneBody is software that runs on a server you control and provides a secure online application for use by community members as a communication medium and social networking tool.
What kind of community is it for?
OneBody was written specifically for a medium independent protestant church, but it is built to accommodate any sort of community.
What size community is it designed for?
Any size, from 10 people on up to thousands. The capacity to handle many users at the same time will depend directly on the capability of your server hardware and how you set up the software. Though, one modern server should be able to handle hundreds of simultaneous users at any given time.
What does it cost?
Nothing.
Is it completely free, or do you mean the “lite” version is free?
No, the entire package is completely and absolutely free. OneBody is not a so-called “lite” version. You get it all in one package, no strings attached.
OK, so it’s free, but what about hosting?
That’s up to you. The software is free, but your community will still need to pay for a web host or set up a server inside your building to make it run.
Do you provide a hosted service?
Yes. Your can sign up for an account at beonebody.com.
Who created OneBody?
Tim Morgan created the software originally for Cedar Ridge Christian Church as an online directory. Since then other Contributors have helped out.
What happens if something breaks? Do you support your product?
If by support, you mean do we log into your server and fix what’s broke, then the answer is No. But, by all means, we do our best to provide timely updates and bug fixes and help for common problems.
When will OneBody be done?
At this point, OneBody is perpetually “beta” like all good software.
Is it stable?
Cedar Ridge has been using the software for nearly three years now, so we believe it to be production ready.
How hard is it to install?
Depends.
- If you just want to play around with the software, then it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes of installing software and running some commands.
- If you want to run OneBody for your community, you’ll need some familiarity with running a server. We don’t recommend running the software on a Windows server, so some understanding of Linux is important.
When will it be ready for me to install with one click?
Probably never, since OneBody relies on so many things being just right. However, if you DeployWithCapistrano on Ubuntu, you will most likely find installation to be easier than you think.
