What is a Phrase ?

Why Phrases not Songs ? In fact, songs can be entirely made within c5. But phrases can build songs so it’s more generic. Let’s review possible applications of c5

Progressions

This book, called “Modern Chord Progressions – Jazz And Classical Voicings For Guitar” then lists dozens of pages of such progressions, like a lifetime work.

C5 will allow to store progressions, and not just classic II V7 I or I iii IV V (I), but every progressions you can think about, and for each one, many interpretations.

Creates collaborative songs

You will hopefully be able to integrate phrases from other people into your phrase. Technically it shouldn’t be very hard (but from an interface point of view it will), that will allow an collaboration for songs

C5 will be a perfect platform to share Jazz Standards interpretations

Properties

Licensing

We will probably force everyone to publish phrases on a true free licence in exchange of the service. It will also simplify.

Popularity

The popularity of a phrase may be determined by it’s use in other phrases, as it will encourage songs built in small reusables phrases ?

Chords dict VS phrases dict

Exactly like the chord dict, in the phrase dict, harmony in the form of the circle of fifths is the unique ID of the phrase. And exactly like the chord dict, you will have interpretations of that phrase. However the definition of interpretation becomes broader.

The number of circles = The size of the ID

In fact the chords dict is a characteristic occurence of the phrases dict : in the chords dict we have only one circle. The harmony is a only chord. It’s a phrase of one chord.
Chords Dict : a circle contains many interpretations and many voicings of these interpretations
Phrases Dict : many circles contain many interpretations and many voicings of these interpretations

Layers

There is another difference between the two dicts, due to it’s nature, the chords dict does not take care of scales. The layers are :
